The History of The Daily POS

Early POS:

POS was formed as a web page on November 18, 2002 by Matt Grieshober aka Soap on a Rope. The website, hosted at Angelfire, was based on a mock-news paper that Soapy had made prior to the web site's creation. There were also around 25 POS webcomic issues created, telling an RPGish story using members of the POS Community. These eventually ceased arriving due to a lack of interest on Soapy's part.

The site started out as a simply people-Soapy-knows-inclusive affair, with Scott Willoughby and his cousin Adam as the only other two members, Adam being a cousin of Soapy and Scott a close friend. The earliest version of the site was on Angelfire.

One of the earlier versions site can be viewed here: http://web.archive.org/web/20030620153948/http://thedailypos.org/

Soapy was also lightly involved in the EarthBound fansite Starmen.net. This brought some attention to the site and brought a few members to the forum, the first of which being antihero. There was a movement of advertising on Starmen.net as well as the Dynastynet IRC Channel #Melee, of which Soapy was a founding member and operator.

With the help of technology guy Steve, the site received its own domain of http://www.thedailypos.org and moved to Uzipp, but doe to some trouble with Uzipp, it moved to Dreamhost. It also formed its own (horrifyingly neglected) IRC channel on Dynastynet called #thedailypos; later, the channel was moved to another server, but then moved back, then the name was shortened to just #pos. It moved servers again, but people were lazy and they decided to call off the move.
